So Much Happening at Once!

The fall play! Designing and making costumes! Teaching classes! Taking classes! Shipping orders! It’s wonderful and whirly and it is a lot.

Digging into the Mabinogion again is lighting fires of scholarship. I’m thrilled to be part of this Master of Celtic Studies cohort at the University of Wales, Trinity St. David. The instructor is world-class, amazing, and kind, and the distance-learning students are a fascinating, eclectic group of similarly-obsessed Celticists, antiquaries, and Druids. So much reading. There is a reading of Sioned Davies’ translation of the Mab from Audible – very helpful to hear it.

There are two amazing sewers working on costumes for Frozen, Jr. We’re chugging along, so much to do. Cutting and sewing on the stage makes things easier in many ways. My new-to-me Husqvarna Platinum 750 Quilt machine is in great shape, sews like a dream, and is familiar as it is the fancy big sister of my Freesia. Many thanks to my sister who found it in the attic of her house, left by a previous owner.

Rehearsals are coming along! So glad we cast lots of kids! We’re down to 28 from 34. That 28 are enthusiastic, dedicated, having fun, and making the most of the opportunity. It’s a miraculous, mysterious process, high school Theatre is. November 5, 6, 7. Coming up fast!!

Classes are amazing. The kids seem relieved to be back in actual school. Participation and enthusiasm in tech is unprecedented. Drama kids are creative and kind, taking huge creative risks and supporting each other. Credit-recovery seems to be either all-in or completely checked out. So many kids are just tearing it up, completing classes, beating deadlines, getting pro-active toward graduation. And some are just stalled out. Pester, cajole, listen, encourage and try to empower.

Annabella had a huge flood of orders after the fall launch. It’s evened out now, just a little at a time. The Head of Shipping is willing and helpful, as he is in all my endeavors. Hoping someone, or several someones, will get the cauldrons ordered ahead of Calan Gaeaf. If not, caluldrons are always an appropriate gift for your favorite Avalonian!
